Emerald City

Emerald City blocks look like pyramids that float above the surface of the quilt. The construction is easy enough for new quilters; the blocks are strip-pieced and chain-stitched. Careful attention to value will make the illusion appear. Adding a drop shadow visually “lifts” the blocks off the surface of the quilt.  You will learn about the most important design element in quilting—value—in a whole new way to create the illusion of a light source.
